FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FROM START TO FINISH FOR PAINTING MY KITCHEN CABINETS?

The vast majority of the kitchens we do, take 6 days from start to finish.  There are some extremely large kitchens or ones that require stripping which require extra time.  We schedule most of our on site project time on Thursdays and Fridays with Day 1 being prep & prime and Day 2 being topcoat application.  Our rehanging days are scheduled the following Wednesday unless specified otherwise.  You can use your kitchen and put items back in your cabinets in the meantime.

IF I’M DOING OTHER KITCHEN REMODELING PROJECTS, WHEN SHOULD CABINET PAINTING BE DONE?

This popular question is most simply answered by recommending that all painting typically be done after any and all other remodeling projects are completed.  This is not a hard rule and there is no “right” or “wrong” project management timing but most refinishers agree it’s best to leave painting til last to avoid damage to newly painted cabinets.

WHAT IS THE CURE TIME AND HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT TO CLEAN MY CABINETS?

In an effort to promote long term durability and elasticity, complete chemical polymerization takes up to 21 days.  You should wait to perform any cleaning before this cure time cycle.  After this time, we recommend cleaning with a dry or damp microfiber cloth.  After this time, you may dampen a microfiber cleaning cloth with water and dish soap to gently clean your cabinets.  We leave all our clients with custom cleaning cloths for future safe cleaning.  No chemicals or additive cleaning agents should be used on your newly painted cabinets.

HOW DO I DEAL WITH FUTURE WEAR & TEAR AND POTENTIAL CHIPS OR DAMAGE TO PAINT?

While we use the highest technology and industry standard application techniques, any and all paint is susceptible to damage throughout it’s lifetime.  Please refer to our warranty for details on our guarantee.  With this being said, we will always leave you a touch up canister should you need to address small areas in the future.  You can always call us with any and all concerns or ask us to touch up chips, dents, or accidentals within the first year.  A typical fix includes spot cleaning area, lightly sanding, repriming (if needed) and reapplying new paint with an artist brush.  If larger, a respray may be indicated.

I HAVE MDF (MEDIUM-DENSITY FIBERBOARD) CABINETS WITH THERMAFOIL COATING.  HOW DO YOU HANDLE THESE TYPE OF CABINETS?

If you’re an older home with builder-grade cabinets, chances are you may have MDF with a Thermafoil wrap and after 10-15 years of wear, you likely have edges that are ripping, peeling or falling apart.  We can remove this outer plastic shell layer and refinish your doors to like new condition.  If you prefer to upgrade the style of your doors or there is significant damage, we recommend new cabinets or at a minimum considering refacing the doors and drawers.  Please see our book a refacing estimate with our team if you’re interested in this service.
